LIBRARY >> GALLERY The following images show the 'big snow' in Co Roscommon. Its not that 'big' really in global terms but for us it was completely unexpected and brought many problems because we were not equipped to deal with it. Most of our neighbours were not set up for such savage weather either. But we managed to catch some of the beauty in digital form and share it here for those who may have interest.

The trees look like they carry white buds trying to become leaves, but it is hoar frost growing with the cold.

An oak tree gifted to us by Adge, Druidschool winter 09/10

The young oak tree (that was given to us by Adge) held onto its foliage until the snows came and even now (mid Jan) - the leaves still cling to the stem. This little tree was called a grandfather by a local man because of its shape. It sits on the east side of our Teach Allais (Sweat House) and can be seen in the image above it in its own bed.

The severe cold weather was a big surprise to us. It very seldom snows here in north Roscommon and it never makes 6 inches (150mm)deep, but it did in 09/10. The air was very fresh and the skies were very blue and we kept a lovely fire going - it was nice to be isolated... for a while... my thanks go to Brendan with his land rover for the lift to the shops and to Tom for the offer of a lift to the shops in his 4x4.
