TARA na RÍ Full Moon at Tara, Saturday 6 Mar 04

It rained on the road from Dublin to Dunseachlain, not too heavily, but constantly, keeping the windscreen wiper on all the time, but, as always, we did not speak of the rain nor mention the cold. The road to Navan from Dublin passes Tara but if you are not conscious of where the turn is you can easily miss it. There is just a small brown signpost on the Navan Road pointing up to the Hill to Tara. We did not miss our turn, because we were on a mission and we were all fully alert and we knew exactly where we were going. Arriving at about 7:15pm at the small car park at Tara Hall shop and café I parked the car facing East to look through the thin drizzle for the Geallach Bán (the White Shining / Moon).

We looked and could see a whiter patch of clouds showing us where the moon was hiding; we always park like this and go quiet just watching the full moon at Tara. I took the watch off my wrist and moved into pagan standard time as we settled our minds for the ceremony. We just looked at the moon as the clouds thinned and thickened and the bright light in the dark sky pulsed strong and weak and then got bigger as if trying to vaporise the clouds out of the way. Without saying anything we just got out of the car and quietly got our kit organised; the sacred firebox, the back pack of sacred woods, robes/hats/gloves, staffs and so on. The rain had stopped; then the moon had fully appeared, first as a blue edged disc of whiteness and then this softened as cotton puff clouds obscured the view.

Then Jupiter shined brightly upon us from the right hand side of a brilliant moon in Virgo, reflecting the Light from the Sun and expanding our magic circle to the worldwide linking of Spirit Workers preparing their own sacred fires to support the "Ritual of Protection" for the Tara Skryne Valley. We walked south on the short gravel path from the stile to the churchyard gates and turned west to greet the statue of St. Patrick. We greeted him in Irish and thanked him for his work, which is now done, and that it is now time for him to rest. Then with my companion Druids and apprentice Druids and student, we walked 50 steps west. The fire was set and the wind came and made a cooperative alliance with our efforts. Very quickly, the little firebox had wild flames dancing and leaping with delight.

We stood back and watched the fire spirit evolve from the charge of wood in the firebox, gazing deeply into the changing colours of the flames as the temperature / energy built up. Three pieces of 5,000-year-old bog oak that were in the firebox near the top caught fire and the aroma and colours of the sacred fire were transformed. When looking up, we could see the Fullest of the Moon beside a brilliant Jupiter surrounded by clear sky as they both together rose over the naked branches of the graveyard trees. The fire crackled and a sense of knowing told me that it was about 8:05 pagan standard time and that it was now time for the dedication. The dedication is simply the story of the threats to Tara, which are; the toll road and the entrance fee/interpretive centre and what this Druid Fire Ceremony "Ritual of Protection" intends to make happen to balance those threats. Our sole intention is to reveal the Light of Tara in a three-mile radius from the Mound of the Hostages. We intend doing this by removing the darkness and raising the Light in ritual ceremony and that this activity should support the work of others who wish to secure the Spiritual Jewel of Ireland forever as a real place of beauty. We will do it again on the next full moon.

We opened our ritual by blessing ourselves with the Celtic Druids Cross of Light Then we cleared the energies of any stain or shadow. Above and below was cleared. In Irish, we then invoked the elements from the directions and secured our circle. We stood quietly for a short time and then began the Magical Breath to build up a charge of energy. A Circle of Healing was opened and many names were placed in the warmth of the magic circle with the intention of transforming situations. I offered to the group some twigs to use for release and wishing. Each person can send any negativity into a piece of wood for release and into to a second piece of wood a wish for another person can be sent to the etheric realms through the transforming power of the sacred fire.

Then, at about 8:10 (Irish PST) I opened the circle to invite the seen and unseen to join us and to lend their Light to this Great Work. Everyone present in the physical realm had opportunity to call on his or her magical ancestors and the god and goddesses. The Great Hunter of the Southern Winter Sky made an appearance and was called in to our circle. We paused, and then we took a step back to make room for those we had called in to our circle. I called out many names from a list of overseas circles of sacred fires and drumming across the world where many people were Spirit Linking to lend their Light to this "Ritual of Protection". We took another step back to make room for those we had named and called. The list was fed to the hungry fire. More small logs were added to the sacred fire sending a stream of red-orange sparks spiralling in the wind. We sensed the warmth of those we had called even with the chill wind of Full Moon in March on our faces.

Now we invoked the Aquarian Man from the East, the Lion from the South, the Eagle/Scorpio from the West and the Bull and Bear from the North as we reached out to link to the Belt of the Zodiac. Now we took a step back and began walking in a clockwise circle magically linking with the Zodiac and keeping the blood flowing into our cold feet and hands again. Then I called to the Star Regulus in the Constellation of Leo (this star was also known as the Archangel Raphael) that was hidden to us but was to the left of the Full Moon to join us in our work. A Great Gathering was assembled to help us lift the darkness and reveal the Light of Tara again. Then the holder of the East turned East and began to pull a cover of darkness up onto her shoulders and walked 50 paces East. "Oberstown" was the shout as the East Quarter was opened up. To the South, a crystal light on a bog oak staff glowed as the cover of darkness was pulled, which was lifted up and taken 50 paces South, "Dunsany" was the shout as the South Quarter was opened up. To the West "Balgeeth" was called after warrior magic threw the cover, and then walked 50 paces West.

As I was holding the Centre and North - I lifted the darkness cover and walked 50 paces North where I threw to "Corballis". I now brought the remaining group into the centre of our fire circle and we tickled a ball of light up from the sacred fire and threw it three miles up in the air.

One mile north of Tara is where the pylons cross the main road and the new toll road interchange and commercial 26acre (10 hectare) industrial development is planned. Anything like this would threaten the harmonic beauty of Tara forever and it must be stopped now. I threw the darkness revealing the Light three miles North. We had made an equal arm cross of expansion from a magic circle into a "Dome of Light" with a three miles radius to the Quarters; we had taken the Light from those who joined in Spirit from many realms and thrown this intention into saving Tara forever. As the Light increases its brightness, many more will see the beauty again. The Quarters return to the Centre feeling the heat from the now mature fire spirit on their faces and hands. We relax into casual chat because our work is now done. It is explained that we will not do any banishing ritual because we wish the magical ancestors to stay and that we also wish the Light at Tara to stay turned on. As the last embers fade and we have tidied ready to depart we protect ourselves with the Celtic Druids Cross of Light. We say "Slán leat" (goodbye) as we pass the statue of St Patrick and return to the car park. It was 9:45am when I put the watch on again but it took a while for that to make any sense. We drove to the centre of Dublin where one member took a bus home, and then we found a pub for a pint (one).

Many thanks go to all who have supported this work. Let the support from this work be felt by the speakers for Tara as they too share the Light of Tara, may their words be recognised as true and may the wishes they express be respected and mat Tara be Saved Forever.

.p.s. This was the 5th full moon "Ritual of Protection" since Lunar Samhain 2003 and this time Jupiter had expanded the link internationally. The next Full Moon Fire Ceremony to be held by the Dark Moon Grove at Tara is at 8ish pst on the 5th of April, which is a Moonday. How appropriate. On the 13th of March at noon I will also be at Tara to offer a Druids Blessing to the gathering and speakers at Dalgan Park. This daylight ceremony will be at the height of the Sun supporting the speakers as they share their love for Tara. This coming Spring Equinox is also the New Moon, when the God and the Goddess enter the sign of the Ram together. The Convocation of Irish Druids meets at Tara to discuss the Protection of Tara and the Summer Solstice Gathering at Tara.
