World Druid Order / Ordre des Druides
A group of four from Ireland visited the World Druid Order at Davayat, in the Volvic region of France for 25th and 26th August 2007. Druids and Archdruids from many countries attended and we had a great time. We were made welcome in the usual French manner and invited to join in open discussions about topics that we ourselves would discuss back home. Subtle Energy, Druidic calendars, Energising Water were some of the main topics discussed.
We had a magnificient lunch in an out door setting less than 100 yards from a giant standing stone that marks the crossroads of the tiny village of Davayat.

We went to the Gathering Place - it was a big circle as the image shows below.
The setting was in an open area beside a stream surrounded by trees. Druids from many countries had made the pilgrimage to be at this ceremony and we all took up our places in the huge circle for the ceremony.

I was dressed in a light green linen leine - traditional costume for a Gaelic Noble from about 1000 years ago - it was a great idea because it so so incredibly hot that anything else would have caused heat stroke. I was asked to join the inner circle of senior druids for this ritual ceremony.

We were invited to join in ceremony where there was to be a 'raising' of a Druid to Archdruid. The reasoning here was that a qualified man was to be acknowledged and honoured by his peers as ready and able to take over from the current Archdruid of the Grove. This was because the job needed to be done and the current Archdruid was getting ready to pass on the responsibility. The important thing was / is that the job is done right and not the holding of the office.
Druid Ceremony - Davayat, France 25 Aug 07
A main part of the activity was the traditional ceremony of connection to the Primordial Tradition or Source as we call it back home. This included bag-pipes that are very loud when you stand beside them. I was placed so that I could read the ceremony script and found that I could understand more of what I read than from what I heard because of course the entire ceremony was in French and they spoke too fast for my limited hearing.

The taking of the vow of service and the annointing of the triban by three druids to the druid becomming Archdruid. I was honoured to be asked to be the third druid to annoint the triban on the headdress of the new Archdruid.
