THE DRUID'S PATH
The Irish Government has enshrined a qualifying statement of primary respect for a God in the preamble of the Constitution of Ireland -
In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from Whom is all authority and to Whom, as our final end, all actions both of men and States must be referred, We, the people of Éire, Humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial, Gratefully remembering their heroic and unremitting struggle to regain the rightful independence of our Nation, And seeking to promote the common good, with due observance of Prudence, Justice and Charity, so that the dignity and freedom of the individual may be assured, true social order attained, the unity of our country restored, and concord established with other nations, Do hereby adopt, enact, and give to ourselves this Constitution.
The above preamble is offensive to Druids and Pagans because it denies the Goddess. It is a stained perception of a dominator religion that excludes all other religions and spiritual paths by their deliberate omission. It belongs to the early life of our free state and not to the multi-cultural and multi-faith nation of today's Ireland. It is a clear example of the government being in a serious relationship with the church of Rome.
All laws in Ireland are based on this constitution and the constitution is biased by its preamble. What can be done? Perhaps some Pagans / Druids can join the Interfaith Talks set up by our government? No - Pagans and Druids are blocked - none of my phone calls or emails for inclusion in these talks has had any response. The all-inclusive talks exclude Pagan and Druids because these talks are in fact a farce. The EU has required that the Irish Gov set up these talks but the dominant religion has sufficient power to exclude all who might disagree with its control.
Having said that - the time has come for Pagans and Druids and we are being acknowledged once again. In the most unusual of ways this recognition by the state has begun for me. I have had Garda protection for five public Druidic ceremonies since the Winter Sun Standing 06/07 because of death threats from a declared catholic fascist. I have visited the Tara Four Prisoners on remand in Cloverhill Prison as a Spiritual Advisor wearing my robes and I have also visited another Tara Campaigner in the Central Mental Hospital as a Spiritual Advisor. But the most recent acknowledgement (albeit indirect) is the Central Criminal Court Jury Summons number 2 30/10/2007 76. This request to me by the state to appear for selection as a juror in a court of law elicited the following response from me.
Excuse Druids from Jury Duty
On FORM J.4. under List 3 - Persons excusable as of right it says (among other reasons)
A person in Holy Orders
A regular minister of any religious denomination or community
Vowed members of any religious order living in a monestry, convent or other religious Community.
Because of the above my hand written reply reads -
I am a person in a Holy Order. I am an Archdruid in Ireland and the World Druid Order. I hold Ceremonies in Ireland and other countries and I am a Spiritual Advisor to Pagans.

My reply to Jury Summons
I have blocked out my actual address and phone number because of a fascist crank who keeps attacking me for the work I do at Tara as a Druid. There are many cranks in Ireland and elsewhere but there is one particularily sad bi-polar psychotic fascist who needs help and not my home address or phone number.
After replying and forgetting about the Jury Summons - I suddenly got the following reply -
Summons withdrawn
The above response is on Form J.7 and I assume that this is a standard reply. All that happened was that the Summons No and date and my name were added. In all honesty - they may summons me again, they may have me listed as dodgy or they may actually have me listed as a Druid / Holy Orders and never summons me for Jury Duty again. Time will tell.
But -
If the Gardaí protect me doing public Druidic Ceremony...
If I am visiting Pagans in Irish Jails...
If the Central Criminal Court acknowledge me as a Person in Holy orders
then - maybe the Irish Government has begun to recognise me as a Druid, maybe not. But the cracks have begun to appear in their exclusion policy.
