CEREMONY
The Sun entered Capricorn at 06:09 GMT on the 22nd of December 2007. The series of images below were taken by Red John on the 21st of December 2007 with a timer on his camera so the sequence has more value, thanks John. For ten days centered on the Winter Sun Standing the suns beam enters the chamber of the giant cairn at Bru na Boinne (Newgrange) after travelling 66ft up a stone lined passage.
The images below are best understood by looking at the times displayed in the name for each image. 8:51 to 8:58 shows the Gold magic effect on the Quartz face of the Bru. The entire south east face of this huge cairn is bathed in a golden glow. The currently missing part is the Quartz from inside the roofbox. This is the secret of the solar engineering at the Bru, but today there is only a round steel bar where Quartz blocks once did their unique magic.
More and more people every year attend this Sun rise event and this year the TV crews were in abundance. There was some problem or other about transmitting the event live on the web, but thankfully we were not bothered by that. This increasing gathering at sacred sites seems to balance out the empty seats in many churches as the people begin to return to making their own connection with the God and Goddess. Our Winter Sun Standing Ceremony at noon on 22nd of Dec 07 beside the giant Ash tree in front of Bru na Boinne.
We heard a lovely story of the Sunrise in the Bru this year. Two Save Tara Valley supporters called Phoenix and Fluffy had put their names on the lottery for places to view the Sunbeam enter into the chamber of the cairn. They won!!! They had to go home for the actual event so they gave their two tickets to Debbie and Donagh - two resident and well known 'Save Tara Valley' supporters. Nice people seem to be rewarded by the universe in the most appropriate ways as Phoenix and Fluffy had the joy of winning and of gifting their tickets to two worthy champions of protecting our ancient heritage and culture.
We enjoyed glorious midday Sun for our ceremony - I wore less outer layers of clothing compared to my experience on Tara for the Summer Sun Standing, we lunched in Cunningham Arms Hotel in Slane and a great time was had by all.
